I love going to schools and talking with students about my work, books, writing and art.
School visits begin with with a talk about my life as an author and illustrator.
I bring materials to show and discuss the process of creating a book from idea to book dummy, manuscript and publication. We’ll talk about which comes first, words or images. Where do ideas come from? And drawing, revising and editing.
Next we see a slide show of projected images showing the process of making a book.
There are several titles to see: Some Writer!, Balloons Over Broadway, A River of Words, Carmine: A Little More Red, or The Boy Who Drew Birds, depending on the the grade or age group.
Students can ask me anything! I love to hear what they’re reading, too.
At this time, school visits are being scheduled for 2020 and beyond. Please direct any inquiries for school programs, library, and speaking engagements to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’m happy to tailor my visit to your needs. I enjoy talking about my life as an artist and the process of writing and illustrating picture books. I look forward to inspiring kids of all ages to write and draw.
