Please call or email me to talk about having me to your school or conference.
I’m happy to tailor my visit to your needs. I enjoy  talking about my life as an artist and the process of writing and illustrating picture books. I look forward to inspiring kids of all ages to write and draw.
School visits begin with with a talk about my life as an author and illustrator.
I bring materials to show and discuss the process of creating a book from idea to book dummy, manuscript and publication. We’ll talk about which comes first, words or images? Where do ideas come from? And drawing, revising and editing.
Next we see a slide show of projected images showing the process of making a book.

There are several titles to see: A River of Words, Carmine: A Little More Red, The Boy Who Drew Birds, depending on the the grade or age group.

Then, each student receives a small drawing booklet.

This small sketchbook is provided for each student to take home. We ‘ll draw together learning simple techniques of cartooning.

Lastly, Q&A.

Students can ask me anything! I love to hear what they’re reading, too.
